What If Your Sending Domain Is Blocked?

If your domain's status is shown as Blocked, it usually means:

  • Your domain is already being used by another account,
  • Your domain has previously been blocked due to abuse, poor reputation, or policy violations,
  • One or more domain or website requirements have not been met,
  • Or, your domain has been identified as potentially unsafe (e.g., scammer domain, poor SMTP score).

To resolve this, please ensure the following:

Domain Requirements

  • Ownership or Admin AccessYou must own or have administrative control over the domain. This will be verified through our Sending Domain Verification process.
  • Unique Organizational Domain per AccountA domain (e.g., yourdomain.com) cannot be shared across multiple accounts. For example, mail.yourdomain.com and alert.yourdomain.com cannot belong to two different Mailtarget accounts.
  • Use of Official and Trusted DomainsUsers are required to use official company domains (e.g., yourcompany.com, mail.yourcompany.com) instead of free, temporary, or suspicious-looking domains. This ensures trust, prevents abuse from scammers, and improves deliverability.**⚠ Using unofficial or poor-reputation domains may lead not only to blocking but also to permanent sending restrictions.**

Website Requirements

Your sending domain must be linked to a live and working website accessible via:

Note: The canonical domain is the main domain name (e.g., yourdomain.com) without any subdomains.

Your website must meet these conditions:

  • Not under construction or showing a placeholder page.
  • Includes a privacy policy explaining how you handle customer data.
  • Does not contain content that violates our Messaging Policy.
  • Hosted in the same country as your Mailtarget account registration.

Reputation Requirements

  • If the domain is categorized as a potential scammer, it will automatically be marked as Blocked once added to Mailtarget.
  • An error page "Domain blocked" will appear if the domain has a poor IP reputation.
  • Sending domains with a poor SMTP reputation (SMTP score -2) will also be blocked.
  • On the Mailtarget dashboard, the domain will display a Blocked status with the tooltip:*"This domain is currently has been blocked. Add another domain or contact us for assistance."*
